Teaching

Electrical Engineering is a dynamic and challenging field. It requires continuous education to stay updated in the variety of subjects and applications. Therefore, I think education in this discipline should focus on developing students’ ability to search for information, improving their commination skills, engaging them in teamwork, and increasing their ability to critically analyze data. These skills will help them be self-learners and master the ability to search and comprehend the latest developments in the field. I believe in utilizing encouragement in teaching classes. In addition, awareness of safety and environment is an important part of modern engineering subjects and should be incorporated in classes. Students teaching their peers can help them in comprehending the class’s material and building strong relationship with their classmates.

I started my career in education as a graduate assistant at KFUPM teaching several laboratories related to the electrical engineering. The main duties included teaching the laboratories to the students, grading the reports, and arranging and delivering review and problem-solving sessions. The second phase of my career was when I have been hired as a Teaching Assistant in the electrical department at Arizona State University to supervise and teach several laboratories. I developed during my work in ASU new slides that were used to teach the labs. The current phase of my career was started when I joined the electrical engineering department at KFUPM as an assistant professor to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in power systems.

My teaching accomplishments and efforts include:

  • Taught 9 different undergraduate and 6 graduate courses.

  • Coordinated 11 courses with a total of 341 students.

  • Organized 3 senior design expos for the EE department.

  • Developed and coordinating 3 different short courses.

  • Developed and co-developing several courses in the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Developed a Master of Engineering in Sustainable and Renewable Energy.

  • Coordinated the M.Eng in Sustainable and Renewable Energy since 2016.

  • Developed a One-Year Master in Sustainable and Renewable Energy.

  • Developed an undergraduate concentration on Energy Efficiency.

  • Developed an undergraduate concentration on Sustainable Energy.
